Keeping Your Distance to Stay Safe: Orange News Update

Social Distancing also called physical distancing, means keeping space between yourself and other people outside of your home. In fact, keeping space between you and others is essential to avoid being exposed to this virus and slowing its spread locally and across the country and world.

Any person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes. According to recent studies it may be possible that people who are infected but do not have symptoms, likely also play a role in the spread the virus. Indeed, COVID-19 can spread from person to person even before symptoms start.

To stop the spread of the virus, please make sure to:

  • Stay at least 6 feet
  • Avoid crowded places and mass gatherings
  • Avoid common greetings, such as handshakes
  • Limit contact with people as much as possible

Also, if someone in your family starts to feel slightly ill, tired, or achy, you need to stay home and practice “self isolation.” This means limiting contact with others. If you notice other severe symptoms such as fever, cough or breathing problems, call your doctor. They will let you know if a COVID-19 test is needed, and what are the next steps you would need to follow.
